Characters Name: Tamantha “Tamy” Shortfuse

Meaning: The last name, Shortfuse, is ironic. Tamy is actually a very sweet, patient, and borderline pacifistic healer. “Shortfuse” was actually a nickname she received from her childhood goblin friends when she first moved to Gadgetzan with her aunt and uncle. Being the only gnome in their group, she was the shortest, so they nicknamed her “Shortfuse”. The name stuck, and she became so well known by her moniker, that when she earned her own surname at the age of 25, she chose to make it official and tack it on as a last name.

Pronunciation: Exactly how it looks: Tam-ee Short-Fuse

Characters Aliases/Pseudonyms: "MEDIC!” or more formally “PARAMEDIC!”

Nicknames: She goes by “Tamy”, and hates being called by her proper name.

Alternate Names: Unofficially: Mascot of the Speedbarge’s Paramedic Team. She’s always the first one called to the scene of a crash. She’s saved every racer’s life on that Barge at least once.

Character Age:33 (human equivalent of 17)

Birth Date: April 7th, XXX

Real Life Zodiac: Pisces

Character Race: Gnome

Tribe/Clan: None

House: The name of her Gnomish house has long been lost since the abolishment of the Gnomish monarchy. All that is known is that her family is unusually religious for gnomish culture, and they’ve been a known to serve medics and doctors for as far as Gnomish history can recall and beyond.

Faction Allegiance(s): Usually Neutral, but favors the Alliance for obvious reasons.

Characters Nature: She’s very much a caregiver. Generosity, kindness, and altruism are virtues she strives for.

Reason(s): It’s her upbringing. Her family line is meant to champion the characteristic kindness and selflessness of Gnomekind.

Character Demeanor: What you see is what you get. Tamy is every bit as gentle inside as she is outside.

Reason(s):  Kindness is not always easy. It can be so tempting to allow one’s heart to turn callous, to numb the sting of empathy. Sometimes it’s easier to turn to doubt, and anger in the face of tragedy, easier to raise a weapon in vengeance than offer a hand in forgiveness. There is no greater strength than to look straight in the eyes of your worst enemy and smile.

Characters OOC Class: Monk

IC Class: Priest/Monk

How/Why: Tamy was a priestess before she turned to the teachings of the August Celestials, then she turned primarily monk. However, just because she’s became a monk doesn’t mean she suddenly forgot her skills as a priest. She will still call upon the Light for spells her Chi can’t supply.

Theme: Youth – Daughter

Meaning: I interpret the song as being young and having one’s idealistic views of the world bitterly torn down by reality but clinging to optimism regardless. She fights every day to find something to hope for or to look forward to in order to press on.

PHYSICAL

The physical attributes for your World of Warcraft Character.

At a Glance: Tan skin, messy dark brown hair, cute face.

Description: She keeps her messy dark-brown hair tied back in a hastily done ponytail, her bangs left to fall carelessly over her forehead. Her skin is a much darker tone than most of her gnomish peers. The unusual tan, brought on from years spent in the buffeting heat of the desert. A few sparse freckles kiss the skin just below her wide brown eyes, and her cute button nose and pouty lips give her an almost doll-like appearance. It’s not uncommon for the gnome to turn a few heads when she passes by.

Her left forearm is always bandaged. Getting too close to it or attempting to touch it causes her to shy away and shield it from sight. It’s clear she doesn’t want anyone near it.

While her body does not express the muscular tone commonly found in battle-ready soldiers, she is far from out of shape; her slim, lean, body being far more suited for agility and speed than brute strength.

Physical Marring(s): She has a large tattoo of a caduceus on her back. Two snakes wrap around the blade of a sword, one docile, and the other hissing with its fangs bared. Two large feathered wings sprout from the hilt of the sword and furl down to the small of Tamy’s back, making it look like she has angel wings. Across the bottom of the blade is a banner that reads “First, do no harm” in Gnomish.

How?: It’s her family crest. Those within her line who chose to take up becoming a healer would take a sacred oath of medical ethics and then have the crest tattooed on their bodies as a permanent reminder of the virtues and standards they strive for as doctors.

Importance: See above. It also marked Tamy’s passage into adulthood.

Armor: Dark green robes with fur lining. She wears a rope belt and a dark green headband that marks her as a monk. At her right pauldron, there’s a red cross stitched into the leather marking her as a neutral healer.

Clothing Choice: Sun dresses and skirts, make-up, sandals/sneakers depending on the weather.

Jewelery or Additional: Her ears are pierced at the cartilage, two earrings at each ear.

Face Claim: None

Voice: She’s very soft spoken, and seldom raises her voice. It almost sounds like a whisper.

Impediments: She has a very light Goblin accent from spending half of her childhood in Gadgetzan and Mirage Raceway

Voice Claim: She would probably be voiced by Andrea Libman or Karen Strassman for their work as Brightwing and Chromie respectively. Tamy probably sounds a lot like Chromie except a tad more breathy and soft.

Stats: Stats that stand out strongly for your character. Listed below is a place for D&D style ability scores. You can put here reason’s why one or two stand out more than others, and where others might not stand out as much.

Strength: 8 (She uses chi to grant artificial strength, but she is actually not very strong on her own)

Dexterity: 16

Constitution: 10

Wisdom: 13

Intelligence: 12

Charisma: 16 (People often feel at ease around her. Natural mediator and peacekeeper)

MENTAL

The personality and quirks behind your character.

Personality Rundown: As has been stated many times before, Tamy is a very soft-spoken, polite, and all around friendly little gnome. She’s pretty upbeat and energetic, always finding a way to lighten the mood in even the most dour of situations. She hates arguing and confrontation, and tries her best to keep the peace whenever possible, but that does not mean she is afraid to raise a weapon if she feels it’s necessary.

In Depth Look: She’ll neglect her own emotional or physical needs in the best interest of even complete strangers, putting on a brave face all the while and never letting anyone know she’s hurting until it’s too late, even if it endangers her life. If she’s called out on it, she becomes very timid and anxious. Many mistake her kindness for weakness. In reality, she’s just as valorous as a fully armored soldier and can hold her own just as well as one, too. Out of her armor, people often mistake her for a dainty civilian. Many have attempted to take advantage of that, believing her an easy target for muggings or posturing. She usually leaves enough bruises that they won’t have to be taught that lesson twice.

Strengths: Brave, generous, patient, charismatic, humorous

Weaknesses: Workaholic, withdrawn, has difficulty saying ‘no’, overly-passive, sensitive, aquaphobic

Likes: Dragons, magic, religion, romance novels

Dislikes: Deep water, any kind of precipitation, rude people, undead (especially Forsaken)

Favorites: Dragons, singing, dancing, sushi, baking, Hearthstone card collecting

Quirks: Mildly allergic to strawberries

Ticks: She does acrobatic exercises to help herself think, and she can’t sit still for more than fifteen minutes. When she’s bored and doesn’t have enough work to do, she’ll often just start cleaning any and everything she can get her hands on. She hums to herself a lot while she’s working.

Alignment: Neutral Good

Hobbies: hearthstone card collecting, singing, and reading

Habits: Talks to herself. A lot.

Phobias: Aquaphobia

Outlook/Philosophy: "Be the person you needed when you were younger.”

Details: During her training as a monk at the Jade Temple, Tamy came across a golden egg in the library. A Pandaren scholar informed her that the egg was long overdue to hatch and they were beginning to think the serpent didn’t make it. Tamy always did have a fascination with dragons, and she still held out hope that the serpent would hatch. After all, she was a healer. If the serpent was ill, perhaps she could help it. She asked the scholar if she might try to hatch it, and when he had no objections, she took the egg with her into her quarters. She slept with it, talked to it, took it everywhere with her. Over time, she began to feel the serpent stir inside the egg. Day by day gaining its strength the more she bonded with it until eventually, she was woken up in the middle of the night by a tiny little ‘peep’ sound At first she thought it was her imagination and tried to go back to sleep. Just when she began to drift off, she was awoken again by an even louder ‘peep’! The egg began ratting violently, knocking itself off the side of her bed and rolling on the floor. Just as Tamy got up to reach for it, the egg erupted causing the gnome to jump back with a startled yelp, falling flat on her back. When she came out of her daze and opened her eyes again, she saw the cloud serpent sitting there on her belly, watching her. She decided then and there to name him, Widget.

Early Childhood: Tamy was born in Gnomeregan to a warm family. She loved her parents immeasurably and spent most of her days just like any normal child. She went to school, played in the streets with her friends until the artificial lights came down, had a pet cat named Rusty. Like most of the children in her family, Tamy wanted to be a doctor when she grew up.

Late childhood: The trogg invasions began. It was becoming increasingly unsafe within the city. After the Massacre of Dormitory 6 in the 12th sector, the Gnomish Council called for a civilian evacuation of all children within grade school age from the city; Tamy would be one of them. She and hundreds of other children, were escorted by Gnomish officers by plane and tram to the far reaches of the Eastern Kingdoms with the hopes of one day being reunited with their families after the troggs were defeated and the city was safe again. But with the plague rampant throughout the north, and with Lordaeron, Quel’thalas and Dalaran having fallen to the Scourge, there were few places were anyone felt safe left. Tamy’s aunt and uncle scarcely survived the Scourge invasion of Dalaran, picking her up from the tram in Stormwind and joining Jaina Proudmoore as well as thousands of other refugees to sail across the ocean to Kalimdor. They didn’t stay long in Theramore, however. Mina found a job in Gadgetzan as a local doctor, and Elmac was able to make a decent living as an engineer. They lived there for about five years until the founding of Mirage Raceway.

Teenhood: Tamy hated Gadgetzan at first, but eventually found new friends among the local goblin kids that lived nearby, among them being her best friend, Nixx. Settling in was less difficult, then.

During those five years, Tamy, Mina, and Elmac would all stay up late at night listening to the radio for news on Gnomeregan and the state of the city. It had been years since Tamy had seen her parents, only able to talk to them nightly on communicators. One night, they didn’t call.

An announcement came over the radio. “Ladies and gentlemen, we have urgent and… devastating news. At eleven forty-seven this evening, on November 18th of the year XXX, it is with a heavy heart that I announce… Gnomeregan has fallen.”

And just like that, Tamy’s world fell apart. For days they listened as the names of the missing and fallen were announced, holding out for any scrap of hope that anyone in their family made it. One by one, each of Tamy’s relatives were announced dead, some missing. As proud medics and doctors, the majority of them, excluding Tamy herself, her aunt and her uncle, stayed behind assisting in the evacuation and holding off the troggs so that civilians could escape the city safely. By holding out on the front line, they ultimately gave their lives. Wixy and Derick were announced among the bodies recovered. Tamy was never the same since.

They moved from Gadgetzan to the Shimmering Flats, taking advantage of the opportunity for a new beginning. They felt, in their grief, Mirage Raceway would be a fresh new start. For a few years, things were beginning to get better. New friends were made, their home was built, business was great. Until…

Adulthood: The Cataclysm struck, sweeping Mirage Raceway and everyone in it beneath the crushing waves of a tsunami. Tamy nearly drowned, only being saved by the graces of adventurers who acted as disaster relief in the aftermath of the flood. Lucky for her, her aunt and uncle survived as well. Many more did not. The Speedbarge wouldn’t complete construction for a while. Until then, Tamy and her remaining family were virtually homeless. They returned to Gadgetzan, which was already crowded with refugees. Twice now, Tamy had been met with mass devastation and the complete annihilation of quite literally everything she ever loved or owned. Suddenly nothing was permanent. Nothing was promised. Everything from love, to friends, to family, felt hollow. She couldn’t feel this pain again, couldn’t take it. So, in the dead of night, Tamy ran away to join the Alliance in an attempt to separate herself from the people she loved.

The Cataclysm was a blur to her. She lived day by day entirely numb. Nightmares would wrack her mind at night, she developed a near-crippling phobia of water, unable to so much as look at the ocean without feeling like she was on the brink of a meltdown. Her faith in the Light wavered, and her spell-casting ability began deteriorate, growing weaker and sometimes not being able to summon it at all. She still wrote to her aunt and uncle to let them know she was alive, but couldn’t bring herself to go visit them.

She kept on like that, all but dead inside, until the Pandaria campaign. All the pain she’d been carrying inside herself for years manifested itself as a powerful Sha of Doubt. She blacked out; she could only assume that the sha possessed her as she was separated from the rest of her party. She was found by monks of the Jade Temple who rescued her, dispelling her of the sha and bringing her back to the training grounds. When she woke up, she was horrified at the fact that her own emotional turmoil had turned her on her allies. It was an affront to everything she was brought up to believe as a healer. It was clear that if she remained like this, she would become a danger to the very people she meant to protect. The monks of the temple were more than willing to help her find peace within herself. Eventually, Tamy grew so inspired by the way of the monks, how they could channel their inner chi to heal, that she decided to take up monk training herself. She spent over two years training in Pandaria, offering her aid where she could, and learning new lessons day by day. IT was the most personal growth she had ever experienced. At the end of the campaign, after four long years, Tamy returned to the Speedbarge to her aunt and uncle and hugged them tight, never letting them go again. After a few months, Tamy found love again as well in the form of a certain warrior.
