Ok so, what is that all leading up to? She got dumb and one dimensional when she held Azurite, so… we have to take her out because she’s dumb and one dimensional. Wow, cool story.
Sure, maybe that is happening. If this is the case, they’ve still done (and are doing) a pretty huge disservice to the characters. Anduin and Sylvanas are not acting so out of character that it’s obvious they’re acting against they’re principles.
You have to show that they’re IS some sort of internal struggle happening if a character makes a decision that goes against their normal drives. Otherwise it’s literally just an excuse to have a character do something and not have to worry about writing character, or it suggests the character themselves is weak willed or weak minded. Both of those options are shit. If Sylv is under the influence of outside forces, you need to have some kind of moment like this
I don’t even LIKE THIS that much but it’s at least better than the only sylv we’ve gotten since the end of legion:
the reasons why don’t matter, it’s still boring lol
Actually, you can see Anduin struggling like hell over what he has to do. “Only one of us wanted this war.” Hell, we had his struggles shown to us in Legion while also dealing with his father’s death.
And in Before the Storm, he’s doing everything he can to maintain peace. But Sylvanas? Nope. She doesn’t believe in it, she doesn’t care that if they can achieve peace for only 5 years (the horde short story in the CE’s box), it’ll be futile, so just go ahead and bring war. War, war, and more war.
She’s very short sighted while trying to see into the future and it’s just…ugh.
Anduin, out of the two of them, is still very much in character, but he’s leader of the Alliance and he has to do what he can to protect his people. And, unfortunately, he has to fight a war. And remember, his father stressed that. Even Varian got to the point that he believed in Anduin’s ideals, but you still have to be willing to fight for it.
True pacifism won’t ever work until everyone is on the same page. Were Sylvanas not in the picture, that ideal would be a whole hell of a lot closer. But alas, she’s in the picture.
