There is no checklist of perfect and complete representation. Ideal representation of all groups, labels, peoples, etc. cannot exist within one thing, nor does it have to.
Characters with flaws should exist. You can condemn and critique their actions without condemning or critiquing the creators.
“”””problematic”””” characters do not equal problematic creators. A creator’s personal beliefs, morals, and perspective are not reflected by their creation.
Character flaws or stories exploring sensitive/problematic/difficult themes do not equal bad storytelling.
Your headcanons don’t have to mean shit to creators. Your headcanons do not have to be acknowledged or made canon. Your headcanons don’t mean shit.
Creatives deserve the right to explore their story and characters without intrusion of the fandom. Critique and criticism are valid, but their presence does not require creatives to change their vision.
No creator is required to represent an entire group of people, let alone embody only the good aspects of said group.
If you value defending a fictional character over respecting the privacy, space, and feelings of a human being, whether they be a creator or fellow fan, you need to step back and evaluate the fact you’re a piece of shit.
You do not own, nor are you entitled to, a thing that you did not create. You are a willing, voluntary audience member.
Not everything is for you or will adhere to your/a group’s subjective standards of what is good/worthy/acceptable. And that’s okay.
